The Shoelace-Tying App

by Faith Teo (11 years old)

Jess always had trouble tying her own shoelaces. Every time she tried, she would always end up as angry as a bull, because of the mess she got herself into. Once, when she was tying her shoelaces, she fell and could not get up. This was the last straw.

In her frustration, she thought hard for an idea which she kept to herself. Finally the Aha! moment came. She whipped out her phone and called two of her IT-savvy friends to invent a shoelace tying app!

Jess friends, Sandy and Chloe, told her that an app like that was already made and explained how it worked to Jess. Immediately, Jess downloaded the app.

The Shoelace Tying App showed picture icons of messy shoelaces and invited users to choose the picture that resembled their messy shoelaces. Upon clicking on the picture icon, the user would be brought to an online tutorial where they would demonstrate how to untie the shoelaces. After that, the instructor in the tutorial demonstrates how shoelaces can be tied and viola! ~ you have neatly tied shoelaces!

An easier way though, the app would say in a blinking advertisement box, was to buy a Shoelace Tying Botthat would pretty much tie your shoelaces for you! It, however, cost S$332.

Sadly, Jess was poor and broke and could not afford such an expensive robot, so Jess decided to learn tying through the online tutorial. After thanking Sandy and Chloe, Jess practiced tying and eventually mastered shoelace tying after practicing every day.

Nowadays, Jess keeps the Shoelace Tying App on her handphone just in case she forgets how to tie her shoelaces again!
